HMI ย่อมาจากคำว่า HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE เรียกง่ายๆ ว่า "Touchscreen" แต่คำว่า Touchscreen ในที่นี้จะเป็น Touchscreen ที่เอาไว้ใช้สำหรับงานอุตสาหกรรมเท่านั้น
HMI (HUMAN MACHINE INTERFACE) เป็นส่วนต่อประสานผู้ใช้ที่เชื่อมต่องานกับตัวควบคุมสำหรับระบบอุตสาหกรรม และระบบควบคุมอุตสาหกรรม มีการบูรณาการฮาร์ดแวร์และซอฟต์แวร์ที่ออกแบบมาเพื่อตรวจสอบและควบคุมการทำงานของเครื่องจักรและอุปกรณ์ที่เกี่ยวข้องในงานอุตสาหกรรม HMI บางส่วนยังแปลข้อมูลจากระบบควบคุมอุตสาหกรรมมาเป็นภาพที่ผู้ใช้สามารถอ่าน และสามารถควบคุมระบบ เช่น การปิด เปิด สวิทต์การทำงาน และเชื่อมต่อกับ PLC และในส่วนของคุณสมบัติของ HMI Touchscreen Hardware นั้นก็จะมีหลายอย่าง เช่น การสื่อสาร (Communicate), การเก็บค่า (Correct), การเชื่อมต่อ (Connect) เป็นต้น

  • การสื่อสาร (Communicate) : จะสามารถสื่อสารกับอุปกรณ์อื่นๆ ในลักษณะที่เป็นแบบดิจิตอล และสามารถสื่อสารข้อมูลกับอุปกรณ์ต่างๆ ได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพสามารถต่อได้ทั้ง PLC Controller Meter และอื่นๆ อีกมากมาย
  • การเก็บค่า (Correct) : ก็จะสามารถเก็บข้อมูลต่างๆ ในรูปแบบไฟล์ Excel รวมไปถึงการเข้าถึงข้อมูลโดยผ่านทาง Web browser ได้อย่างง่ายดาย ทำให้สะดวกในการตรวจเช็คข้อมูล
  • การเชื่อมต่อ (Connect) : สามารถอำนวยความสะดวกให้กับผู้ใช้ในการดูค่าของการทำงานต่างๆ โดยการเชื่อมต่อกับโทรศัพท์มือถือ หรือ Smart phone และยังสามารถส่งข้อความ SMS หรือ E-mail ให้กับบุคคลที่เกี่ยวข้องได้อีกด้วย
